Antonio Banderas (born 10 August 1960) is a Spanish actor, director, and producer who became one of the first Spanish film stars to achieve major international success in Hollywood. He began his career in Spain, rising to prominence through his collaborations with director Pedro Almodóvar in films such as Labyrinth of Passion, Matador, Law of Desire, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!, where his charisma and emotional intensity helped define a new era of Spanish cinema.
In the 1990s, Banderas moved into English-language films and became a global star with roles in Philadelphia, Interview with the Vampire, Desperado, The Mask of Zorro, and Evita. He later reached a new generation through voice acting as Puss in Boots in the Shrek franchise and its spin-offs, turning the character into one of animation’s most beloved figures. Banderas has continued balancing Hollywood productions with more personal and European projects, including a celebrated reunion with Almodóvar in Pain and Glory (2019), which earned him the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor and an Academy Award nomination.
