The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988) is an American crime comedy directed by David Zucker, based on the short-lived television series Police Squad!. Leslie Nielsen stars as Lieutenant Frank Drebin, a well-meaning but catastrophically incompetent Los Angeles police detective who uncovers a plot to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to the city. The film also stars Priscilla Presley, Ricardo Montalbรกn, George Kennedy and O. J. Simpson, and became one of the defining spoof comedies of the 1980s, built around deadpan performances, absurd visual gags and rapid-fire wordplay.

The film was shot in and around Los Angeles, with real city locations used for many of its absurd set pieces. Dodger Stadium appears in the climactic baseball sequence, even though the game in the story is presented as a California Angels match. Frank Drebin infiltrates the game as an umpire while trying to stop the assassination plot, leading to the famous โ€œEnrico Pallazzoโ€ chaos, Reggie Jacksonโ€™s hypnotised assassination attempt and Ludwigโ€™s spectacularly ridiculous death outside the stadium.

Other useful Los Angeles locations include Park Plaza Hotel, which was used for Vincent Ludwigโ€™s office, and the Ambassador Hotel, which was used for the Queenโ€™s reception. The Park Plaza Hotel is especially useful visually, since its grand interior fits Ludwigโ€™s wealthy villain persona, while the Ambassador Hotel is now a former location, as the historic hotel was later demolished.
