Julia Louis-Dreyfus (born 13 January 1961) is an American actress, comedian, and producer widely regarded as one of the most accomplished television performers of her era. She became internationally famous as Elaine Benes on Seinfeld (1989–1998), where her sharp, physical comedy and effortless timing made Elaine one of sitcom history’s defining characters. Before Seinfeld, she worked in improv and sketch comedy, including a stint on Saturday Night Live in the early 1980s.
After Seinfeld, Louis-Dreyfus built an extraordinary second act in television. She led the sitcom The New Adventures of Old Christine (2006–2010), winning an Emmy, and then reached even greater critical acclaim as Selina Meyer in HBO’s Veep (2012–2019). Her performance in Veep earned her a record-setting run of Emmy wins and cemented her reputation for portraying ambitious, ruthless, and hilariously self-deluding characters with surgical precision. She has also done voice work, film roles, and producing, and later expanded into the Marvel universe with the character Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
